The 21st Night of September

. . . we had a party. Complete with a charcuterie board and disco music. So many cheeses. So much good music. So many good friends.

[No pictures of the actual people, unfortunately, but they were there!]

Also, you know when dates on the calendar actually coordinate with the weather to make winter or spring or whatever feel like a certain season has finally arrived? That happened on Saturday (the 22nd of September). It was the first day of fall, and a brisk wind swept through, clearing out the weird subtropical humidity that has been hanging around far too long.

Fall is here.

Second day of Second year

Bring it on.

Also, can we just talk about how cool this lecture room is? It's beautiful.

I like this candid shot of Sam, just looking up at the ceiling. :)

Summer Adventures

Now that it is officially fall, and since it's been months since I've actually posted (if you've waited for me to blog again, here you go!), I've decided to just do a few pictures of what the summer looked like. There was some England travel (for archival research but also for fun), garden visiting, pie making, and getting to know this corner of the East Coast better with Sam.

[National Archives]

[A bit of Britain]

[Churchill War Rooms]

[Bourough Market--where you hear American accents everywhere]

[Oh yeah, I took a short weekend trip to Belgium]

[Where I ate a lot of waffles and fries]

[And where I also ordered food in very broken French]

[This. I ordered this pain au chocolat in French]

[So good.]

[I also ordered these cherries in French]

[Pretty gardens. All of which were ruined for my because I'd read King Leopold's Ghosts and all I could think about was blood money.]

[But, I got to run into my cousin David on his mission! That was fun.]

[The most-photographed statue of all time.]

[It was also Belgium's Independence Day when I went there. Don't tell me Europeans don't put up flags. Because they do.]

[Beautiful Brugge]

[With beautiful chocolates]

[I also went on a short day trip to Luxembourg. I have wanted to go to Luxembourg since I was seven. I'm glad I went--but let's be honest, part of it was also to tie Sam in our country count.]

[The entire country of Luxembourg looks like something out of a fairy tale. Most likely Cinderella.]

[It also looks like something out of a postage stamp]

[See? Postage stamp]

[Did I mention it was really hot?]

[Liking the pink house]

[Back in the Bodleian]

[And back at Corpus!]

[My favorite place]

[with my favorite guy]

[love love love]

[Jet lag is real, folks]

[The greenest grass in Oxford last summer]

[But really.]

[We also took a quick trip through the Cotswolds]

[This church was painted inside and had paintings of Biblical women near the altar]

[Esther]

[Ruth and Naomi]

[This made me laugh.]

[As we walked in fields of gold]

[Next stop: Cambridge!]

[Ever-stunning King's College Chapel. Even with sad grass.]

[Again, did I mention it was hot?]

[Spent a lot of time at Queens' because Sam loves it just about as much as I love Corpus. Maybe more.]

[Jaunt to Granchester]

[American Cemetery]

[Back in Utah for a bit!]

[I love Utah skies.]

[I made a cake.]

[We hiked part of Timp.]

[Sam and I go rock climbing together now. It is funny that I go rock climbing now, because I still hate heights. But rock climbing is fun and I'm getting better at it.]

[We found a Russian Orthodox chapel and cemetery while exploring New Jersey]

[The Jersey Shore]

[Fried Oreo. Not pictured: going to the beach and getting really badly sunburned]

[PEACH PIE]

[My, "I WANT TO EAT ALL THE THINGS" face]

[#domesticgoddess]

[Jersey sunset]

[Princeton Battlefield]

[Garden State]

[Woods near our house]

[That one time we went up to Yale to visit Ben and Bronwen]

[And eat ice cream. Obvs.]

[Longwood Gardens. One of our favorite trips. The gardens are so beautiful!]

[I married a man who literally stops to smell the roses. I'm not complaining about this.]

[Looking over his kingdom.]

[The botanical gardens. A.ma.zing.]

[I could write an entire blog post about these gardens--and, in hindsight, should have, but here we are. But here are a few pictures.]

[Okay, but these lily pads were SO BIG.]

[Back in Princeton. But this looks like England and makes my heart to rejoice.]

[Super old cemetery]

[England? Or Jersey?]

[Once upon a time, Sam and I wanted to find the Swinging Bridge in the Institute Woods. And after getting lost for a little bit, we found it. The end.]

Thanks for your patience in this photo dump. But there was my summer. It was a good one. I am missing it now that classes have started again.
